How we work at Compton Builders

From the beginning, we have been working closely with our customers’ to make sure we meet their project requirements. Our specialists will work closely with you to determine if you need new paving, an overlay or various other options to achieve the best results. Our services also include:

  • Correcting the base of an area with grading issues
  • New construction
  • Expanding parking lots or driveways

We can install new asphalt over either an existing base material or over the native soil. One of our specialists will inspect your space and provide you expert advice on the right steps to take in order to get the end result you want.

When analyzing your current project, there may come a break-even point where fixing several problem areas will cost as much as a new overlay or a removal and replacement. We will make sure you know all your options to give you the best result for the least amount of money. The process typically involves milling the surface of the existing pavement and then applying a tack coat adhesive. Our team of specialists will then put down a leveling course of asphalt, followed by the overlay. Then we grind out or break away existing asphalt and haul it away. In some cases, we may need to redo the subgrade to strengthen the foundation. The new or existing base is then rolled to grade, which will help with water drainage and preservation of the new asphalt. After the base is compacted, we apply a new layer of fresh asphalt and roll it to specified thickness, leaving you with a fresh new lot.

When Would A Full Asphalt Replacement Be Necessary?

Normally this will be determined during the inspection process. When you look at your asphalt now, is it: dried out, oxidized, cracked and falling apart to the point where an asphalt overlay would be like putting a Band-Aid on a large open wound? In that case, it is a wise decision to remove the material and reinstall a stable subgrade. A patch repair or seal coating or will cost you less in the short term, but if the lot is beyond repair this will only delay the inevitable and the pavement will fail soon. In the long run, it is cheaper to replace the lot and plan a pavement maintenance program that is within your budget,
